BYU Students are funny...

I saw this last week, and I thought I would share.

First, a letter to the editor in the BYU student newspaper:

Occupy HBLL

Things need to change.
As a BYU student who has parents who pay for my tuition, I am frustrated with hard working and studious students receiving higher grades than me.
Why does the 1 percent deserve all of the As?
It simply is not fair to all of us “average Joe” students who spend our time fraternizing with the opposite sex, playing video games and following Jimmer on Twitter.
We cannot let the 1 percent control our futures any longer.
We, the 99, will rebel against these unfair practices by going to the HBLL and not leaving until we get what we want.
Our plan is simple:  students will continue studying, working and socializing as they heretofore have but the top 1 percent of students in every class will have their points redistributed amongst their classmates to produce a parity.
We will stay in the HBLL until these demands are met.
To prove our commitment we will not study or do homework while occupying the HBLL.
We do not ask for much, simply fairness. We want what they have.
By doing this BYU and its students will achieve a level of mediocrity and fairness never before imagined.
This will equalize the 1 percent’s opportunity to work, study, do homework and run all of our service clubs while the rest of us don’t even have that opportunity because we were forced to stay up until 2 a.m. watching Divine Comedy skits on YouTube.
The 99 shall triumph with Occupy HBLL.

I want to be the fun Aunt...

So,
My Montana family are coming to visit me!
Next week.

Kind of a surprise fall festival of fun...
{at least, that is what I am hoping to pull together}
Because,
let's just be honest here,
I AM the Fun Aunt!

Anyway...
I hoping all my Utah friends,
can help me with some suggestions
for the most Utah Fall Family Fun you can think of.

My tentative plans include:
The BYU football game next Saturday
{a 1:00 PM game, in 68 degrees = AWESOME}
plus an Aunt Julie "hook-up" for my nieces
with a Cougarette....
{remember - I am the FUN Aunt...}

Then there is a Utah corn maze
(although I'm totally torn...
Should we go to:
Hee Haw's
(American Fork)
or Corn Belly's
(Thanksgiving Point)?

Any other suggestions?
Thoughts?

When Wild Turkeys Attack

I saw this video on the news the other night...
it made me laugh!!

I guess a reporter in Sacramento, CA
was following up on reports of a wild turkey
who was attacking joggers.
and this is her experience.

(I love that the mailman saves her...
and I also love that she hides from the turkey in her car,
while the turkey keeps circling.)

Polishing Silver

Last month,
when I went to Arizona for my Nana's funeral,
I was so blessed to come  home with my Mother's wedding silverware set.
My Mom died of cancer when I was seven,
and while I vividly remember this wooden chest of silverware,
I can't remember the last time I saw it,
or the last time it was used.

anyway,
while hanging out with family at Nana's house after the funeral,
I saw this wooden box in the kitchen,
and when I asked my sister about it,
she asked my Dad about it,
and he gave it to me.

I was honestly so surprised.
I'm not the oldest daughter,
and I'm not the married daughter,
But,
never the less,
I was given the silver.

While I've been thinking about it all month,
I finally made it to the store last weekend,
and bought some silver polish., and
I've spent much of the last week polishing away.

Have you ever polished silver?
It is a tedious, slow process.
It is also fairly messy,
and as I have been polishing away,
I can't help but draw the parallel
between polishing that silver,
and the challenge of "polishing" one's life.
These silver pieces may not have a lot of monetary value,
but they are precious to me.
They have been sadly neglected
and the tarnish has really built up.
Some pieces are almost corroded in places.
However...
the application of the silver polish,
some gentle rubbing with a nice soft cloth,
and you see the inherent beauty shining through.

It is amazing to me.

Those pieces of silver
have honestly not changed in value one bit.
They were as precious to me in their tarnished state,
as they are now in the bright, shiny polished one.

I know that my Heavenly Father loves me just the same,
whether I am polished or tarnished.

However,
the reward of seeing those silver pieces
bright and shiny?

Awesome.
and?
worth every minute of tedious polishing.
worth the dry skin on my hands.
worth the stained dishcloths.

WORTH.ALL.OF.IT.

The Scene of the Crime...

So...
It's been a crazy,
crazy, crazy week.

The most obvious craziness
being the injuries that happened here at my house.

My Dad came to visit
(seriously, first time ever to my house)
and he got up in the middle of the night to use the restroom,
got disoriented in the dark,
and fell down the stairs.

Really long and steep stairs:
(exhibit A)
if you look closely at this next photo,
you can see the scrape that goes all the way down the stairway
on the left wall:
 and lastly,
toward the bottom,
the nice dent that he left in my wall.

so.
lessons learned by me from this experience:
1. when you hear a bump in the night,
get up and investigate.
even if it is silent after.
2. Loss of consciousness after hitting your head?
Go to the ER.
Immediately.
3. No matter how much your Dad protests?
Do not let him drive himself to the hospital.

The good news?
He is fine.
Slight concussion.
Light bleeding on the brain.
very sore and lots of bruises.
Now released from the hospital and free to go home.
(yeah!!!)

But it could have been much much worse.
And I am so very grateful that
My prayers were all answered
and despite the seriousness of the fall,
all is well.

I am so thankful for tender mercies.

Again?

What is the deal with family coming to visit me,
And ending up in the hospital?
(my house seems to be a death trap of sorts...)

Favorite Moment from Friday's Game

video
It's obviously a rough video...
But, it was the best moment ever!
(The last touchdown,
the game-winning one...)

not to mention...
I had some amazingly great seats!
